Everyone wishes children came with instructions, especially when they seem out of control.  When parents turn to counseling to address behavioral problems, clinicians need a variety of tools to treat the myriad of underlying issues that may contribute to the behaviors (especially when the parents are part of the problem).

This workshop will provide an overview of strategies for working with children and adolescents—and their parents—to help them make better decisions and get along better with teachers, peers, and family.  The workshop will include hands-on activities that clinicians can readily incorporate into their practice.

Learning Objectives:

•    Identify basic principles for effectively modifying children’s behavior.
•    Learn practical techniques for strengthening executive skills and effective decision-making.
•    Discuss strategies for empowering parents who struggle with managing children’s behavior.
•    Discuss application of techniques to treatment of issues such as ADHD, ASD, and emotional disorders.
